! Attention ALL !
I have some communication from the Forestry stating they will be looking to post and rail fence some of the wild trails over the Bixhead/Barnhill area . Three at least that drop onto the tramway will be impacted. Unclear which ones yet for definite. Pre-warning signs will be put up soon before the post and rail fencing goes up.
FE has chosen to close the top of these exits only halfway up the hillside, instead of right at the top. That leaves scope for riders to still ride halfway downhill and then exit to the left, along the old quarry entrance track that goes downhill and exits onto the fire road towards the stone firm.
The reason stated is that they are trying to protect against erosion that bikes are causing on the old tramway. The local FoD history society is concerned about the damage that bikes & trails are causing on the tramway. Due to the the impact on this local heritage feature for these three exits, they have been classified as ‘red’ on FE UAT guidance. This means that they are required to close them.
Adam Wight and I are going to meet the local FE team next week to learn more about which trails are affected.
If you have any comments or questions then please comment below, and we will ask FE.
Will update again in due course.
Cheers
