Pocket Trails Just Got a Big Upgrade

Updated: 6 hours ago

UPDATE 6th AUG

v3 out now , just click on the app link and updated to your homepage.

When we launched FoD Pocket Trails a little while back, we called it version 1 and asked what you'd add. You told us — and the answer, loud and clear, was a map.

So here it is. The biggest update yet. Think of it as knowledge in your pocket.

An offline map, with your live position on it

This is the one we're genuinely proud of. FoD Pocket Trails now has a full offline map of the official trail network — every waymarked trail and downhill run, colour-coded by grade, exactly as you'd expect them, and here's the clever bit: it shows your live GPS position, with no signal and no data. Your phone's GPS works even when there's no reception, so you can see roughly where you are in the forest whether you've got bars or not. No map app, no downloads, no subscription — it's just there, offline, when you need it.

We've also marked the two spots everyone asks about: the café at Pedalabikeaway and the FlyUp uplift pick-up point.

Building a proper offline map into a free app was the hard part — but it's the thing that makes this genuinely useful out on the trail, so it was worth getting right.

Jump straight to any trail

Reading about the Freeminers and want to see where it goes? Every trail and downhill run now has a "View on map"button — tap it and the map jumps straight there, fits it to your screen and highlights it. No hunting around.

Everything else that's in it

The map joins a whole lot the app already does:

  • Emergency first — one-tap 999, a "show my location" button giving your exact coordinates offline, and first-aid basics

  • Check before you ride — live trail status and recent rider reports

  • Ride Now — suggests what to ride based on conditions and time, with a daylight countdown

  • Every official trail — grades, distances, features and honest local tips

  • GPX routes — download the Verderers, Freeminers and Family Trail into Trailforks, Komoot or your Garmin

  • All 14 downhill runs — with descriptions and POV video links

  • Local rules, checklist, glossary and FAQ — the practical stuff

How to get it

It's still completely free, and still no App Store needed. Open fodpockettrails.netlify.app on your phone and add it to your home screen — full instructions on our Pocket Trails App page.

Already got it installed? It'll update itself next time you open it with signal.

Still just the start

A quick reminder: the map is a reference guide, not a turn-by-turn sat nav — for detailed navigation, load the GPX routes into a dedicated app like Trailforks. And whatever the app says, always check the live trail status before you ride.

As ever — this keeps getting better because of your feedback. Give the new map a go and tell us what you think. 👇

See you on the trails.

Paul
