Accessible & Adaptive Riding at Cannop Cycle Centre

There's genuine, welcoming riding here for all abilities — and it's worth knowing about.

Old Bob's Trail — built for everyone

Old Bob's Trail (Green, 2km) is the standout for accessible riding. It was built specifically to be suitable for a wide range of bikes — including adaptive cycles, 2/3/4-wheel bikes, and tag-a-longs. Wide, smooth and gently graded, with three skills areas and rest spots along the way. It's not an afterthought bolted onto the main trails — it was designed from the ground up to be inclusive.

Adapted bike hire — GBG Bikes

Goals Beyond Grass (GBG Bikes) — a Gloucestershire charity — run inclusive, adapted bike hire sessions at the Forest of Dean. They offer a range of adaptive cycles so people who can't ride a standard bike can still get out on the trails. Sessions are affordable and welcoming, with no experience needed.

(Worth confirming current session days, times and booking directly with Goals Beyond Grass before travelling, as these can change seasonally.)

Accessible facilities

The Cycle Centre has:

  • Accessible toilet

  • Step-free access from the car park to the visitor centre

  • Café, bike wash and showers on site

  • Accessible parking near the entrance

The wider trails

Beyond Old Bob's, the Family / Colliers Trail follows wide, mostly-level gravel tracks along old railway lines — manageable for many adaptive and hand-cycles. However, it's longer (you can ride out and turn back at any point).

A genuinely welcoming place

The Forest of Dean riding community is a friendly one, and the Cycle Centre is well set up for riders of all abilities. If you or someone you're bringing has specific needs, the best thing is a quick call ahead to Pedalabikeaway or GBG Bikes — people here are happy to help make a visit work.
